The Smith Island Inn is a cozy bed and breakfast centered in the charming town of Ewell on an isolated island in the Chesapeake Bay known as Smith Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore on a quiet street overlooking Ewell Harbor.

The Inn opened in 2012 as a full service bed and breakfast offering a quaint simplistic charm and high quality service in the quietness of a peaceful setting that is rare to find in the modern world. The Inn has updated amenities yet has retained the original charm of its 1800's heritage. Once owned by the Island furniture-maker, the innkeepers have kept the original pine floors and staircase.

We pride ourselves with creating memorable experiences for our guests. We have created unique excursions for guests to enjoy which we hope will create lasting memories. Excursion trips are priced by the individuals conducting the tour.  While we do not benefit monetary from recommending tours and excursions, we are delighted in hearing morning stories of treasure hunting, sea glass collecting, and birdwatching. Our guests come from all over the world to experience our tiny island culture that is truly lost in time. Enjoy kayaking, bicycle riding, walks out on the dock to birdwatch, sunset cruises, or most guests favorite activity, experiencing being in a place that modern society has yet to find and where peacefulness has never left.

Besides being known for its hospitality, crabs, cake, and charming, friendly residents, travelers from near and far treasure Smith Island for its peaceful tranquility and its unique position as a well-known landmark on Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore that has stood lost in time.

The Smith Island Inn Expands...

We are thrilled that as a result of our reputation for quaint tasteful accommodations, our business has continued to evolve and grow. With this ongoing growth, our bed and breakfast accommodations tend to fill up quickly. To meet this much-appreciated demand, we have expanded our guest options with a selection of three family-friendly rental properties. Just like the Smith Island Inn, we take care of all arrangements so you don't have to! Each house includes a land line phone, whole house and property Wi-Fi access, and television.

Michele's House, Grant's Handi-Hideaway, and the Oystermen's Pearl are uniquely situated on adjacent lots making it an ideal location for large groups although the houses are customarily rented individually while offering the same quality, comfort, and family-style hospitality that has made our Inn so special. We consider our Inn and our home options an extension of our family; and consider each guest a yet to be met friend!

Before your stay, a custom package of materials will be sent to you. Our homes have all been completely renovated, decorated, and feature antiques, family heirlooms, historical island pieces, and other unique details that are known highlights of the Smith Island Inn. High quality tasteful linens are used in all of our homes. All of our properties offer updated baths, dining areas, comfortable living spaces, and kitchens with complete dishware, glasses, silverware, cookware, small appliances, coffee makers, and other personal touches. Every house has a main level queen bedroom and a main level full bath. Most homes have secondary bathrooms as well.

Each home is unique, has its own personality, and evokes a different feel. We talk to each and every guest to plan your get-away to Smith Island! For guests who locate us and book on line, we will contact you to ensure that ferry schedules and other arrangements are as you expected and to help you personalize your perfect trip. We can usually accommodate special requests, including golf cart rentals, sunset cruises, artifact or beach glass trips, birdwatching tours, historical tours, or a specialized Day in the Life of a Watermen Tour.
